In just a few months, they already set up yet another local artist’s market event. This time it was in collaboration with local businesses (apparently) which allowed them to do a cosplay contest. At this event, now called Hai Japantown x Mahouto Market, I was able to find a whole lot more people to take pictures of and I was able to stay there for a considerable amount of time. It was a shame one of my friends, Leyzee, was unable to attend and my other friend, Carmina, only stayed for a couple hours. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable experience and I got to meet a few new people.

The event went on just about the same as the last Mahouto Market event. The only difference was just how many cosplayers I got to see this time around. Another was the fact this event would only be for one day, Saturday.

I brought my speedlite this time around just in case I would need it indoors. I found myself not really using it much as the speedlite didn’t help as much as I thought it would due to the ceiling being brown (which causes light to be absorbed rather than bounced). I couldn’t help but notice there was a guy who looked like he was trying to make the best out of his shots, but was just not getting the right angles. Since I wasn’t taking pictures, I let him use my speedlite. He normally has the gear, however he left it all in his car. I was happy that the speedlite was able to get some use and he was able to take good pictures out of it.

Later in the day, I noticed the same guy trying to take a picture of a Kimono Saber, however this time it was the light that was causing him some grief. I had actually moved my car to the parking lot close to the building where the market was being held at. Because of this, I was able to quickly grab the light diffuser I had in my trunk and assist him. He was grateful and offered to share the RAWs of the pictures he took (which was super nice of him!). You guys should check him out! He has a website and Instagram.

Overall, it was fun and it’s nice to know there are more events such as these popping around Seattle. It’s difficult to find a time to take pictures of several cosplayers inbetween cons. I try to use these events as a way to experiment with new ideas, concepts, and techniques. With that said, here are the pictures I took at the event!
